Freelance recruitment agencies

It’s always difficult finding work as a freelancer and is a constant cycle of getting to the end of a contract with the aim of having your next one lined up straight afterwards but it rarely works like that.

With this in mind, and having recently built a couple of good new contacts with recruiters, I thought it might be worth actually praising recruitment consultants for once because there are a few good ones out there who aren’t just posting up jobs looking for rock star designers with 10 years experience who can also write server side code in 20 languages and are masters of 3D animation and who would of course like to work for £15k a year.

If you’re struggling to find freelance work at the moment and haven’t really considered recruiters as an avenue to finding more work, here are a couple of agencies with experience of dealing with designers and developers and who actually have realistic ideas about placing freelancers in their next contract.

The shortest list of nice recruitment consultants you’ll see

  1. Character Creative
  2. The Book
  3. Purple Consultancy
  4. Orchard
  5. Creative Pool

I didn’t mention it was a short list but it is! These are people I’ve had experience dealing with so if you’ve had a good experience with a recruitment agency, please feel free to post their details in the comments and I can update the shortlist!

In addition to this, don’t forget I’m working on a new version of Company, meet creative which offers full time and freelance design jobs – take a sneak peek!

Thanks for the list, James.

I was wondering if you had any sites to check out for freelance recruitment in the States?

Thanks,
Ryan

Hi Ryan,

Unfortunately I don’t really know of any as it would probably be easy enough to find some agencies but the aim of this post was to try and offer some options where I (and the readers) could actually vouch for the quality of the recruiters based on experiences with them rather than just listing ones who look ok.

I’m sure as the post is read by more folks, the list can be expanded and we might end up with a decent covering for the UK and the US.

J.

Thanks for the thumbs up James – it’s always nice to get positive feedback and is very much appreciated.

Keep up the good work and speak to you soon.
