Save Uncle Monty’s

UPDATE: It eventually sold for £265,000 to a local publican. You can view a video slideshow / article about the cottage on The Guardian.
The nice folks at Flame digital have set up a site to try and raise donations to make a bid to buy the famous cottage owned by the infamous Uncle Monty in the classic film Withnail & I.
If we raise the £145,000 asking price, then we are in with a shot at bidding. If we win we intend to set up a trust for the property and propose willing donators get together to restore it to something approaching its former glory. We could maybe use it as a guesthouse / museum to the film, with all donators eligible for discounted rates to stay.
If we fail to buy the property, then all funds raised will be shared equally between The RNID and Cancer Research UK – two charities closely linked to the making of the film.
There’s not long before it goes up for auction and the very real possibility of it being bought by uber she-tosser Kate Moss is something that shouldn’t be permitted. Visit Saveunclemontys.org

To be honest I hope that you do raise the money to buy it and not give money to the RNID.
