20 well designed e-commerce sites

Posted on Friday 30th May, 2008 by James Young | 10 comments

There are a lot of ugly, hard to use and ill conceived e-commerce sites out there. As I’ve been asked recently by a number of clients to either develop a full e-commerce site or at least offer some sort of online retail functionality, I thought I’d list 20 well designed e-commerce sites.

Some range from setting up a full e-commerce site and others have simply required the ability to sell a few items online using simple means like payapl.

Without further ado…

Here is a small list of 20 well designed e-commerce sites I’ve bookmarked in recent weeks which might provide a little inspiration. Don’t forget - you’re welcome to suggest other sites in the comments!

Howies

CubecartStyle.com
Uniqlo
Narwhal Co.
Bored of Southsea
Coast Stores
Tiso
Kurt Geiger
Oli
Fox Cubs
Ollie and Ellie Cookies
Shoe Guru
Alpine Bikes
Adrian Buckley
John Lewis
House of Fraser
Patagonia
Lightrein
Threadless
Panic
Camisetas

So there you have it, 20 shopping sites that are nicely laid out, punchy and give good prominence to their range of products and promotions.

You’re welcome to submit more suggestions in the comments at any time and I’ll happily expand this post to include more than 20 sites.

2 sites that I have to share with you — that I think both excel at not only the e-commerce experience but allow you to personalize your product in the process.

    1. http://www.helpineedhelp.com/products/t-shirts/ - everyone needs help. so — just out with it! simply type in what you need help with — and pick your size and hit submit. Literally placed my entire order in less than 15 seconds (customized to my specification). All ecommerce sites should strive to be this good.

    2. http://www.fillintheblankie.com — makes it crazy simple, fun and easy to order the most thoughtful, memorable and practical baby gift possible!

Both are very cool sites (they are not overly slick — they just seem to get it)!

    Welcome your thoughts and feedback,
    T
