Clean up your act - great uses of whitespace

Posted on Friday 27th June, 2008 by James Young | 2 comments

There’s a distinct trend at the moment which has thankfully seen a return to real clean cut, well laid out and above all, simple websites. I’ve always leant towards designing using as much whitespace and a limited colour palette to really display information to visitors without too much distraction.

Here is a list of 10 sites I’ve found inspiring either recently or in the past which demonstrate great understanding and application of whitespacing in their design and layout. Hope you enjoy them.

GE.com
Louis Carre Gallery
Spiekermann Partners
cnn.com
Rikcat
Stuff and Nonsense
Omnia
North Pole record

If you have any suggestions of sites you think fit in well and make good use of whitespace to push their content, feel free to post them in the comments.

Great list! I really love plain and simple websites and I think RikCat industries is just that.

I also like Jeff’s site - very cool!
